Richard Deacon studied at the Somerset College of Art, Taunton, England; St. Martin’s College of Art, London; Royal College of Art, London; and the Chelsea School of Art, London. He was the recipient of the Turner Prize, (1987) and the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres (1996). Deacon has exhibited internationally at such institutions as the Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht (1987); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1988); the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (1989); and the Kunstverein, Hannover (1993). His recent retrospective, Richard Deacon: The Missing Part, was shown at the Musee d’Art moderne et contemporain de la Ville de Strasbourg, France and The Sprengel Museum, Hannover, Germany (2010-2011). He participated in Documenta IX (1992), the Glasgow International (2006), the Venice Biennale (2007), and the Venice Architecture Biennial (2012).
