Hello Yann, first of all, tell us something about your upcoming work. What are you into at the moment?
As my personal work, I’ve recently started with two new styles : iconic landscapes and portraits. I’m going on right now, creating some patterns with cities on fire or on war… Regarding to my professional work, I also create patterns, but in an old traditional art style. It’s new for me and it’s funny to create!
Would you give a brief walk through your workflow?
Well, I work a lot…I wake up to thinking about illustrations, I work all the day for my clients, I eat with images around me. Even when I’m sleeping I’m dreaming of illustrations. That’s my workflow !
How has your work evolved over the years from when you were beginning?
At the beginning, I liked to create vector lines. I don’t know why, maybe because you can tell a lot of stories with the lines, you can easily add some movement with a psychedelic rendering. But I’m also very curious and I always need new challenges. So, after a few years, my work looks almost like a studio with a lot of different directions… (isometric, iconic, datavisualisation …).
Who’s the first illustrator that comes to your mind in a second?
What’s the place or what do you do when you feel you’re thinking in a bright way?
Mmmm…I like to think having a shower, it’s quiet and relaxing … and yes oddly, often, I have good ideas!
Something you’ve always wanted to do, but have yet to.
Oh, so much things! But I’m only 32, so I have plenty of time to run the world!
Something you want the world to know about you.
I think the world is doing well without knowing me..
Something that annoys or frustrates you about people.
Too much people don’t look over the truth, they just want to be right…what a waste of time and energy!
Your idea about social networks.
I’m still disturbed about my friends who don’t look in real life like their image on social networks… They are humans, not slick promotions of themselves…And I prefer them that way.
What’s overrated/underrated today?
Often substance seems to be underrated besides shape. I like both run together! Don’t try to overrate form and don’t forget substance. I try to make sense in every color or shape I create.
