New York City native David S. Allee came to photography after a career in the field of urban and environmental planning. “My interests haven’t changed much since becoming an artist and photographer,” he says, “structures, the built environment, that’s what I’m still drawn to, but in a less tangible and more abstract way.”
David’s photography has been exhibited widely in numerous solo exhibitions, including Morgan Lehman Gallery in Chelsea, Princeton University, and Knoxville Museum of Art. His photographs are in the collection of the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, Library of Congress, as well as numerous other public institutions and private collections.
In 2003, David was chosen as one of Photo District News 30 emerging photographers to watch. His photographs were recently featured in the book City Art, by Merrill Publishers and his work has also appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, Dwell, New York Magazine, Architectural Record, Esquire, Details and GQ.
His images have been used in ad campaigns for ESPN, NASCAR, Pfizer, and Allstate Insurance, among others.
